20 questions to get to know Bec Hopkins - Salt Pilates Studio Owner

Bec or some of my school friends call me Hoppo
2. Three words to describe you?Passionate, Shy, Smiley
3. How long have you been a pilates trainer for?Almost 6 years!
4. When did you launch Salt Pilates Studio? We launched November 2017 - exactly 1 year ago! I can't believe how fast this year has gone!
5. What inspired you to get in to pilates?I was always that kid who played EVERY sport and loved anything fitness related. I studied Sport & Exercise Science at Uni in the UK and not knowing what I wanted to do once I graduated, I moved to Melbourne and applied for a part time job at a Pilates studio (I had no idea what reformer pilates even was at the time haha) and my love grew from there!
6. What's your favourite post workout snack?Peanut butter smoothie
7. How do you stay motivated? At the studio - knowing that people come to see me everyday is so motivating! The love people have for the studio keeps me driven to be my best everyday (even if it is hard getting up at 5am everyday).
In my own exercise - it can be hard after a long day at the studio. I find training with friends or scheduling in a workout in my diary keeps me accountable. That post workout feeling always helps too!
8. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Mint green - slightly obsessed with that colour right now! It's so calming and refreshing!
9. Who is your biggest inspiration, and why? This is always so hard! I get inspired by different people daily! I've met a lot of people over the last year doing great things in their lives.
10. Fun fact about you?I have an accent... I'm Scottish!
11. What can't you live without?Cheese! I add cheese to everything haha. It's definitely a big weakness of mine. And you can't have cheese without wine...
12. How would you describe your job to a child?I help people find their healthy and happy selves through movement and exercise!
13. If you’ve had a bad day what do you do to cheer yourself up?Go for a walk - it definitely helps to clear my head! I walk around Albert Park Lake most days and listen to a Podcast! My favourite podcast right now is Seize the Yay by Sarah Holloway!
14. When do you feel most balanced?Hmm balance is something I have struggled with a lot this year! I have put a lot of my energy into Salt Pilates and may have let my own health and fitness slide slightly... but for me balance is being able to find time to exercise and enjoying time with friends and family. I ALWAYS feel most balanced when on holiday - I need a holiday STAT!
15. How would you define Happily Active?"Exercise gives your endorphins, endorphins make you happy and happy people don't shoot their husbands" - Elle Woods
Being active and exercising is an instant mood lifter. Exercise is my form of medicine! I can also be pretty competitive so setting goals and getting better at something each time makes me Happily Active!
16. If you could be anyone else for a day who would it be, and why?A man... you know just to see what it's like haha!
17. Biggest fear?I'd say the future! I worry about things before the have even happened.
18. I’m happiest when…At the beach reading a good book! I love a good murder mystery!
19. Summer or winter?Definitely Summer - bring on the beach days!
20. What’s your favourite quote/mantra, and why?Sometimes you have to take a leap into the unknown and where you land is where you're meant to be!
It can be easy to stay in your comfort zone and extremely scary doing something different from what you are used to. When I decided to open Salt I literally had no idea what I was doing. I didn't have any business experience. Google was my best friend. I took that leap not knowing if anyone would even come to the studio and now I love every single part of running a business by myself. It definitely has it's challenges but it's also a dream come true!
