1. Have you ever had a nickname?
This is kind of embarrassing but all my school friends call me Big Ab and it actually used to be my instagram name too. To cut a long story short, we had a friend in school called Sarah who was the littlest in our group so everyone called her Lil Sez. I was the tallest so naturally, everyone started calling me Big Ab (Ab for Abernethy).
2. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
Does it need to be a new colour or any colour? If any colour I'd have to go with YELLOW because it's bright and happy, like sunshine.
3. Who's your hero?
My Mum and Dad. They're fantastic role models and lead such a balanced and healthy lifestyle, while not taking life too seriously. I'm definitely the way I am because of them.
4. What did you have for breakfast?
Always the same - a protein smoothie with vegan protein, almond milk, banana, oats, peanut butter, spinach and cinnamon. It's nutritionally dense and fuels me post work out / sets me up for a long day of work.
5. Favourite post workout snack?
Okay lately I am seriously obsessed with Nutty Bruce Peanut Butter & Cacao Nut Butter Balls. Try them!!!
6. What makes you laugh the most?
Another tough one. Of course my friends. They often joke that we're the funniest girls on earth, and I do believe that lol. Sometimes I spit on my phone with the responses they fire back in the girls chat (I'm sure every girls group feels like this). But also my brother.. nothing quite like the lols you have with siblings over silly animal videos.
7. If you were a piece of clothing, what would you be and why?
A bikini. Because I love the sea, sand and sunshine!
8. How would you describe your job to a child?
Gosh another tough one. I work both as a model and as a freelance communications consultant, so I guess I'd say in both those fields "I help bring brand stories to life!"
9. What song would you sing at karaoke night?
Ohhh hard one! Um probably Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
10. Where in the world would you love to go on holiday?
I'm desperate to go to India - any part really. Also would love to climb Machu Picchu. I'm craving a spiritual journey.
11. If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self what would it be, and why?
Oh gosh, so many things! But most importantly: "Don't sweat the small stuff. Don't worry so much about what everyone else is doing, or what they'll think of you. Follow your heart, and always, ALWAYS listen to your gut. Everything will work out just fine!"
12. What's your secret talent?
I'm quite good at picking up languages. I learnt Mandarin in primary school and can still speak a bit, as well as a little Spanish and French from high school... has definitely served me well in my travels.
13. What motivates you to work hard?
I've been so lucky to grow up with parents who love travel, and were able to take us away. I'd love to provide the same to my children one day.
14. How would you define being Happily Active?
Finding a form of activity which doesn't feel like exercise but gets you out in the fresh air and gets those endorphins pumping! For me it's early morning beach walks..
15. If you had a choice between two superpowers, being invisible or flying, which would you choose and why?
Probably flying. I simply couldn't be trusted as an invisible person..
16. If you could compare yourself with any animal, which would it be and why?
A lioness. I see them as such a quietly confident animal. They're also independent yet loyal. I'd like to think I fit that bill! Oh I'm also very sporty so I'd definitely be the hunter of the pride!
17. What’s your favourite way to get Happily Active at the moment?
At the moment I'm loving Pilates. I recently joined Peaches Pilates in Bondi and it's like the ultimate feel good girls club. Going to their class is like a work out, motivational session and meditation all in one. I'm addicted.
18. What's your proudest achievement in the last 12 months?
Nothing in particular, but I'm most proud of how I've grown in my career. I've finally hit a solid run with both my modelling and freelance work (both of which I'm proud to say I love doing equally), and I have to keep pinching myself and reminding myself that what I have now, is what I was wishing for 5 years ago. It's a special time and I'm just grateful for every client and opportunity that comes my way.
19. What are your top three workout songs?
Running: pretty much anything by Flume or Kaytranada
Weights: pretty much anything by Drake
Pilates: I'm loving old school bangers like "All for you - Janet Jackson"
20. What's your favourite quote/mantra and why?
I have two I'm loving lately, both with similar sentiment:
"A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms"
"Don't compare your life with others. There's no comparison between the sun and the moon. They shine when it's their time."
I think nowadays with social media we spend way too much precious time comparing ourselves to other people's highlight reels. Whenever I get caught up in this wave of thinking or silly negative self talk, I always refer to these quotes to bring me back down to ground.
